Plant-based Protein
Plant-based protein supplements have grown in popularity in recent years as more and more people are becoming vegan or living on a plant-based diet.
For many years, plant-based protein supplements were seen as inferior to meat or diary based protein supplements. This is because most plant-based protein powders are ‘incomplete proteins’ which means they don’t have a full spectrum of amino acids. This is with exception of soy or quinoa.
The issue that plant-based protein has faces is not the quantity of protein, but it’s the quality of the amino acid profile. Anyone can get a quality protein intake from plant-based foods, however it requires a lot more thought and consideration than a meat based diet would need. For example, beans and rice are high in protein but neither are complete proteins but eaten together they complement each other and make a complete protein source.
Many companies selling plant-based supplements only include one course of protein. Whilst this may look great on the packet with its high protein content, in reality the protein inside isn’t high quality and won’t be well absorbed.
This is a problem that we wanted to fix when creating Ultra Protein and Ultra Complete plant-based. Both of these contain a blend of proteins to ensure a good amino acid profile which will help to ensure the protein is absorbed and used effectively by your body.
Ultra Protein contains 6 different types of plant-based protein: Pea Protein Isolate, Brown Rice Protein Isolate, Hemp Protein Concentrate, Pumpkin Seed Protein Concentrate, Quinoa Protein Concentrate and flaxseed powder.
Ultra Complete contains 5 types of plant-based protein: Pea Protein Isolate, Brown Rice Protein Isolate, Pumpkin Seed Protein Concentrate, Quinoa Protein Concentrate and flaxseed powder.
By combining these different sources of protein, we get a protein supplement which contains all the amino acids in the optimal quantities which provides a fantastic protein source, tastes great, mixes well and provides a fantastic amount of fibre which is important for many reasons.
These products are also great for mixing into pancakes, porridge, cakes, yogurt, cereal and lots of other food sources to help ensure you get the protein you need on a plant-based/vegan diet.
